The Republic of Belarus is one of the founders and a Member State of the United Nations (UN) since 1945.
The Republic of Belarus also joined the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1954.
The National Commission of Belarus for UNESCO (NCB) was established in 1954.
The acting staff was appointed by the Decision of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus of 29.12.2001 No. 1888.
The activity of the National Commission is carried out in accordance with Approved Programme and Budget of UNESCO for 2004-2005 years and the Plan of work of NCB.
Its activity in 2004 is directed at development of cooperation between Belarus and UNESCO in the field of education, science, culture, communication and information.
